Description

Peabody College was founded in 1875 when the University of Nashville, located in Nashville, Tennessee, split into two separate educational institutions. The preparatory demonstration school, University School of Nashville, separated from the college in 1915. What began as the Peabody Normal School was called the George Peabody College for Teachers by 1930. Peabody College closed and merged with Vanderbilt University in 1979 as its School of Education and Human Development.
